Want to be a part of this campaign? Or even just interested in finding out more? Then this is the event for you.
We’ll be presenting you our plan to win South Brisbane and in the process give you an opportunity to contribute to the campaign with your ideas and strategy in our new campaign office on Boundary St.
You’ll hear from:
- Amy MacMahon, the Greens candidate for South Brisbane
- Max Chandler-Mather, the campaign manager of the Gabba Ward campaign and now South Brisbane
We want to build campaign that draws much of its strength, ideas and policy from the South Brisbane community - so we think it’s important that we give supporters and volunteers of the campaign a direct say in the campaign.
To win we’ll need to run a campaign even bigger and better than what we pulled off in The Gabba Ward. We’ll be up against two parties cashed up with millions in large corporate donations and multi-national property developers who would prefer that someone like Amy never reaches State Parliament. Because we refuse to take corporate donations, we’ll never have the sort of money the two old parties have - so we need you and hundreds of other volunteers to build a movement capable of beating the old parties and their millions.
We’ve lost control over our neighbourhoods and the decisions that affect our daily lives - if we ever had control. If feels increasingly like politics is a realm exclusively reserved for large corporations and politicians who happily take their donations, go to their parties and take their cushy jobs in retirement. We want to help change that and start giving control back to residents. We don’t think winning South Brisbane will change everything overnight - but it would be a historic moment. We would be helping to elect Queensland’s most progressive state representative in their history - South Brisbane would have someone who actively refuses large corporate donations. Someone who would fight for genuine affordable and public housing, real renters rights, sustainable development, proper spending on public infrastructure - and perhaps most importantly helping to give people back control over the decisions that affect their daily lives.
