Right next to Davies Park in West End, a developer has lodged an application to build two 26 storey highrise towers. The height limit in the neighbourhood plan for this site is 12 storeys. The developer is arguing that they should be allowed to build 14 storeys over the height limit in exchange for handing over 0.4 hectares of the site as public parkland.
I really don’t think we should have to choose between more traffic congestion and more crowded schools, or no new public parkland. Instead, Jonathan Sri and I are calling for the Council and State Government to buy this site and turn into public parkland.
But our voices alone won’t be enough to make this happen. To win this, we’re going to need to come together as a community and fight for this green space.
Join Jonathan Sri and I for a community meeting on Saturday 6 March at 10am to hear more about the proposed development and to discuss what we can do as a community to fight it.
More information about this proposed development can be found here.
