Right now, big sections of the inner south of Brisbane are inaccessible and unsafe for people walking or riding. So many of us who would rather walk or ride are having to drive, and those of us who need to drive are stuck in traffic.
Investing in bike lanes, safe pedestrian crossings and walkable streets can reduce congestion, traffic noise and air pollution. Making our suburbs more walkable and rideable encourages people to buy local, boosting local businesses
Pedestrian crossing priorities:
Here’s some of the key pedestrian crossings the Greens and I have been advocating for across South Brisbane.
We’d like to see safety updates for existing pedestrian crossings at:
- Gladstone Road in Dutton Park
- Stanley St E in East Brisbane
- Logan Road in Woolloongabba
We've been pushing for new pedestrian crossings and intersection upgrades at:
- Wellington Road, Kangaroo Point/East Brisbane
- Ferry/Drake St intersection on Montague Road
- Hardgrave Rd/Dornoch Tce/Ganges St intersection
- Dornoch Tce (between Boundary St bridge and Colville St)
- Gloucester St/Stephens Rd intersection
- Annerley Rd/Cornwall St in Annerley/Dutton Park
- Cornwall Street/Ipswich Road in Annerley
- Logan Road/Stones Corner Roundabout
Bike lanes:
The Greens and I have been fighting for a network of protected bike lanes across South Brisbane, including Vulture Street, Montague Road, Main Street, Grey Street and Annerley Road.
We've already made some progress on the Vulture Street bikeway, that would connect West End and Woolloongabba. Read more about it here.
