Rents are rising three times as fast as wages and almost a third of Queensland renters are in housing stress. People are being pushed out of their homes, and onto an ever-growing social housing waiting list.
Queensland is in a housing crisis. And our weak rental laws are only making things worse.
To make sure every Queenslander has a secure and affordable place to call home, it’s crucial that we urgently reform our rental laws to:
- Cap rent increases
- Ban “rent bidding” for good
- End “no grounds evictions” by landlords
- Set minimum standards for rental properties
- Make it easier for renters to have pets
- Allow tenants to make minor modifications
For 1.8 million Queenslanders rental properties are their home – not just a part of an investment portfolio. But I can’t win these crucial reforms alone.
We’re up against some powerful enemies – the real estate lobby and mega-wealthy property investors will come out swinging against these crucial reforms. To win this it’s going to take all of us together. Take the first step today, and pledge to fight for these crucial reforms.
