Just make sure to:
- Add your story as renter in the second paragraph! (where it says [ADD YOUR EXPERIENCES AS A RENTER, OR WHY YOU THINK IT IS IMPORTANT FOR RENTERS TO HAVE REAL RIGHTS])
- Stories can be as long or as short as you like.

Here's a quick run down on what's happening:
Back in May, I introduced the Greens’ rental reform bill into parliament. We proposed a broad range of reforms, from capping rent increases, to allowing tenants to make minor modifications. (You can read more about the Greens' Bill here – it's called the Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation (Tenants' Rights) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2021)
Labor came back a few weeks later with their own rental reform bill. But disappointingly, their proposed changes were really minor – and were slammed by rental advocates. (You can read more about Labor's Bill here – it's called the Housing Legislation Amendment Bill 2021)
The Community Support and Services Committee is currently considering both these bills side-by-side, with their report back to parliament due in August. We now have a critical window of opportunity to push Labor to implement real rental reform. It’s time for us as renters in Queensland to organise, mobilise and fight back.
Back in early 2020, the REIQ mobilised 8,000 letters of opposition to crucial rental reforms, that were similar to some of what we’re proposing. Labor MPs heard from thousands of wealthy property investors and real estate agents. Their campaign was seemingly very effective, with the government capitulating to their demands in their current bill.
To counter their opposition and secure wins for renters in Queensland, it’s crucial that we out mobilise the REIQ. We need your stories, your friends’ stories, your family’s stories and your housemate’s stories.
Together we need to flood the inboxes of the Committee and of government MPs all across Queensland with the stories of renters. Let’s give Labor MPs no choice but to start listening to the 1.8 million Queenslanders who call rental properties home.
