The February 2022 floods were devastating for many in our community. Apartment complexes along the river in places like West End, South Brisbane and Kangaroo Point were hit hard, with long power outages, flooded basements, and destroyed internal infrastructure.
As climate change intensifies, our community is staring down more frequent and intense flooding events.
So as we prepare for another wet summer ahead we want to bring together as many local body corporates as possible to talk about flood readiness in apartments.
Join your local representatives, Councillor Jonathan Sriranganathan, State MP Amy MacMahon and Federal MP Max For Griffith for a community forum about what we can do to prepare apartments for the next flood.
We’ll share everything we’ve learnt about the issues we’re aware of from the last flood – from backflow valves, through to energy infrastructure – but mostly we want to hear from you:
- What issues don’t we know about?
- What did we do last time that was useful and what else would you like to see us do next flood?
- What key issues should we be advocating to all levels of government on?
This will also be an opportunity for body corporates to talk about what their buildings are doing to prepare and to share knowledge with one another.
