Add your name to keep up the pressure

For two and a half years the LNP Lord Mayor has enthusiastically supported the $2.7 billion Gabba demolition. Now after mounting pressure from the community and the Greens, he’s finally backflipped.

But there’s more the LNP at Council could do to stop the Gabba demolition for good. It’s crucial that we use this opportunity to ramp up the pressure on all Labor and LNP leaders at the state and council level to stop the Gabba demolition for good.

In the middle of a cost of living crisis, it's almost criminal that this government is wasting billions of dollars of public money just to rebuild a stadium for a one-off-event. To make matters worse, the Gabba rebuild will demolish the East Brisbane State School and destroy Raymond Park.

The Victorian Labor government scrapped the $7 billion Commonwealth Games because this money would be better spent on schools, hospitals, housing and other crucial public infrastructure. There's no reason why Queensland can't back down from the $2.7 billion Olympics Gabba rebuild and invest that money in the things Queenslanders actually need.

Right now, the state Labor government, the LNP and Labor's Brisbane City Councillors are still supporting the $2.7 billion Gabba demolition. They need to urgently withdraw their support to save the East Brisbane State School and Raymond Park, and commit the funding to housing and other crucial public infrastructure instead.

The LNP Council could still do more to stop the Gabba rebuild once and for all. They need to commit to no funding from Council related to the Gabba stadium plan and any road closures and planning approvals needed for this ridiculous project to go ahead.

Will you sign?

We call on the Labor Premier, Leader of the Opposition and all Labor and LNP Brisbane City Councillors to urgently withdraw their support for the $2.7 billion Gabba Olympics rebuild, and to do everything they can to stop this community-wrecking project from going ahead.
