Myself and Michael Berkman, the Member for Maiwar, have written to the Treasurer ahead of the 2023/24 budget, outlining our priorities for the state, and our own electorates.
Read our statewide letter here, and our South Brisbane letter here.
To raise billions in additional revenue for Queensland, we're calling for:
- Increased royalties for all minerals and coal
- A levy on the big banks
- An empty homes levy
- A Developer Tax on windfall profits
After taking up the Greens call for higher minerals royalties, the state government have gathered an additional $6 billion. With the billions we could gather by making big companies pay their fair share, Queensland could fund:
- Fully funded state schools
- More staff and infratructure for hospitals
- 200 new state-run GP clinics
- Free public transport
- More funding for Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services
- 25,000 new public homes every year
